UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is committed to helping people who are forced to flee their homes, building a better future for millions of families and ensuring that all those who have fled persecution, violence and war find a safe place to stay. UNHCR's commitment to leaving no one behind is crucial to the realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. At CCRMUN 2024, delegates will discuss and draft resolutions on the theme "Ensuring the safety of refugees from Syria". The crisis began in 2011 and is considered to be causing the most displacement in the world, with more than 12 million Syrians displaced, 5.5 million of them in neighboring countries such as Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt. After the serious human and material damage caused by the February 2023 earthquakes in the region, the crisis is not expected to improve. The people who are in or have fled Syria need all the help we can get. The CCRMUN 2024 UNHCR committee has chosen this topic in order to draw attention to the conflict, promoting this knowledge for debate with all delegates who wish to participate in it.
